The Scottish Feminist Network is made up of regional women’s groups throughout Scotland, promoting and supporting women’s rights in life and in law.
We are strictly non-party political and unfunded. Our network includes members and supporters of all parties and none, with views on other political issues that span the whole range of opinion.
As a general principle, we share the beliefs referred to as “gender critical” and outlined in Forstater vs CGD Europe and others i.e. “that biological sex is real, important, immutable and not to be conflated with gender identity[…) and that statements such as “woman means adult human female” or “trans women are male” are statements of neutral fact”.
We use the word “woman” exclusively to refer to a human female.
Prior to 2020, many women were involved in private feminist groups on Twitter or in other feminist organisations and supported action taken by, for example, For Women Scotland but the women involved were often based far from each other and this left some women feeling isolated and unsure how they could make a difference.
Events that year catapulted the issues that some women had been campaigning on for months or, in some cases, years to a wider audience and prompted women to seek each other out both in their local area and across Scotland.
Coming together in larger numbers in locality based groups on social media and in real life and combining those groups into the Scottish Feminist Network amplifies our voice and our reach. We work closely with other organisations who share our feminist principles or with whom we have shared goals, sharing information and supporting a wide range of activism to promote and protect women’s rights.
Our website was established to ensure we could reach women who might not be comfortable, or do not have a presence, on social media and this newsletter is an extension of that aim.
Membership is open to any woman in Scotland who shares our principles and our goals.
